VBS
This year's Vacation Bible School is scheduled for Sunday - Wednesday, August 1-4, 2010, from 6:00 - 8:15 pm each night.
Step back in time to Marketplace B.C. with us. This will be a wonderful way to experience Bible times and to better understand our Christian heritage. Our hope is that our children, while learning at his or her own rate, will discover and become involved in personal questioning, exploring, feeling, evaluating and applying insights and truths to their own lives.
Plan to come smell the aroma of freshly baked bread as the baker takes it from the oven. Watch as the carpenter fashions things out of wood and help the brickmaker make bricks. Taste the foods of the Old Testament, make crafts, musical instruments and tremble at the sight of the Philistine soldiers.
Your child will become a member of one of the Twelve Tribes of Israel and will learn about the lives of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob along with the stories of Moses, King David, Solomon and Ruth.
Many volunteers will be needed to serve as Tribal leaders, tent shopkeepers, roaming soldiers, etc. Would you plan to bring your children to this year's Marketplace B.C. along with their unchurched friends, pray for this year's VBS and volunteer to serve in some way? We will need men and women of all ages to help in this VBS, teenagers, too! (A list of volunteer areas can be found in the Vacation Bible School section.)
To learn more about how you can get involved, please contact Deanna Myers in the Children's' Ministry office, at dmyers@mrpca.org or at (864) 268-2218/ext.206.
Good News Club
School Year
MRPC oversees the work of Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) at Mitchell Road Elementary. The Good News Clubs are fun, evangelistic forums where children sing, memorize Scripture and hear the life-changing message of the Gospel. This club meets each Tuesday from 2:30-4:00 p.m. during the school year. Help is needed in all areas — including teaching, activities and providing snacks.
For more information, contact Sheryl Farquhar at geoshefar@bellsouth.net.
Summer
During the summer CEF conducts weeklong clubs for children in neighborhoods throughout Greenville. These summer clubs last one hour a day. This is among MRPC's short-term mission projects, and many of our teens have served in this capacity in years past. This is an excellent opportunity to live out the Gospel before children. Team members applying through MRPC must be at least 15 years old. Applications can be found at www.cefgreenville.com.
Children's Choir
The children's choir, under the direction of Steve Lawton, provides an exciting way for children to participate in the worship ministry of the Church. Our children's choirs are based on age groups and focus on music education and training for worship. For more information, contact Steve Lawton at slawton@mrpca.org or at (864) 268-2218/ext. 203.
K4 Cherubs-in Training Choir
Taught weekly by Mr. Lawton, the K4 Cherubs meet in F-207 during the school year on Wednesday nights at 6:45 pm. For more information, contact Steve Lawton at slawton@mrpca.org or at (864) 268-2218/ext. 203.
K5-1st Grade Cherubs Choir
Meets in the Music Room during the school year on Wednesday nights at 6:45 pm. This training choir sings in the worship service about 6 times per year. Directed by Gary and Ruth Whitley. Contact the Whitleys at GaryWhitley@juno.com.
Kingdom Kids (Grades 2-6)
Meets Sundays at 4:30 p.m. in W-102 during the school year. This choir participates not only in our worship services, in special Christmas and Palm Sunday programs, but also performs in the Madrigal Feaste and for community services, such as the CEF banquet. A select ensemble from this choir has made several CD recordings, including nationally distributed recordings for Great Commissions Publications and for the Reach Out Adventures VBS songs. Directed by Sheryl Farquhar and Sarah Gaffney. Contact Sheryl Farquhar at geoshefar@bellsouth.net.
