Guidelines For Teachers
- Have A Definite Sense of God's Gifting and Calling You to This Task (Eph. 4:12)
Be aware of and develop the gift(s) with which God has graced you.
- Have Daily Fellowship with The Lord (Ps. 1:1-3)
Take time to read God's Word daily and allow His Spirit to teach you. Pray for your children daily.
- Prayerfully and Carefully Plan for Each Class Session (Ps. 119:18; 2 Tim. 2:15)
A true lesson grows out of your experiences with the Lord. Allow Him to give you the lesson and the joy to share it.
- Attend Training Meetings (2 Tim. 3:16-17)
Take advantage of books, resources and regional seminars to enhance your teaching.
- Contact Parents And Students (Matt. 21:16) Try to contact one family each week.
- Be On Time, Even A Few Minutes Early (1 Cor. 4:2)
Be in the room 15 minutes prior to the start of class.
- Attend Worship Services Faithfully (Heb. 10:25)
You are to be a spiritual example. Attending worship is one way of staying Spirit-filled and enjoying the fellowship of believers. You must be a member in good standing at MRPC.
- Secure A Substitute And Prayer Partner (Eccles. 4:9-10)
Have someone you can train and develop to be a leader. By doing this you are helping them develop their gift as a teacher.
- Understand That If You Have Questions Or Problems, Please Contact The Children's Director Or Other Staff (1 Cor. 3:9)
We are co-laborers with Christ and we need to share our joys and burdens.
- Speak the Truth in Love With a View Towards Their Edification (Eph. 4:15, 29)
Speak well of the child, never speak harshly about or to them, especially to others.
Discipleship of Students
- Be A Friend To A Child! (Matt. 18:5)
- Measure Christian Growth
- In Knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ (2 Pet. 3:18)
- In Faith (2 Thess. 1:3)
- In Service (Eph. 4:12)
- In Wisdom (Prov. 1)
- In Favor with God (Prov. 12:2)
- In Favor with Man (Acts 2:47)
- Right Expectations
- Respect: in word, action, and attitude (Eph 4:22-24)
- Obedience: Your personal life should be committed to Bible study, prayer and Christ-like living. (2 Cor. 5:14-15)
- Sunday Is Your Time To Be A Blessing Giver
- It has been rightly said, "They don't care how much you know until they know how much you care" (cf. 1 Cor. 13:2). Give meaningful attention to a child through listening and interaction. Our words should be encouraging, uplifting, and positive. There should be no insults, cut-downs, gossip, slander or any talk where someone may be hurt, especially in the presence of children (Eph. 4:15, 29). Humor should reflect a walk with God (Eph. 5:4). Picture their special future which God has planned for them.
- Listen More Than You Talk (Jas. 1:19)
- Ask open ended questions.
- Take Ownership of Your Ministry
- You are contributing to the Church (1 Cor. 12:4-7; 1 Pet. 4:10-11).
- Study Your Students
- Every child is a unique gift from God. You must learn how to teach the child in the way God created them (Prov. 22:6).
- Make Disciples (Matt 28:19-20)
- Begin with informal friendship time. Children stay in Church for the same reason adults do: they have relationships.
- Have serious prayer together. Caring for them as Christ cares for you.
- Encourage and hold children accountable for the work you have asked them to do.
- Tell a personal story.
- Make the Bible story exciting; apply the story to their life.
- Close with prayer.
